Dancing Over the Edge

Time after time you've played the fool
Dancing too close to the edge,
Treating young hearts as if a game
Of chance you cannot hedge,
So when the time for love comes round
And commitment lies on the ledge,
You'll miss the mark - miss out on love
The fool dancing over the edge --

And you're dancing to the music
That no one hears but you,
Glancing through the cages
Of reflections back in view,
Seeing through the pages
Of your life - or so alleged,
As you miss the mark, miss out on love
The fool dancing over the edge --

Now humpty dumpty sat up on his wall
As the soldiers came into view,
He dared them all to knock him down
But something’s he didn't think through,
Like how could a heart that was broken be true
To the one who had thrown it away,
And how could the shell of a man stand firm,
When the love he couldn't keep ran away,

So he's dancing about on the top of his wall
Tempting the soldiers to make him fall,
But the soldiers stay back - stay away from the ledge
As the love dancing fool
Dances over the edge --

He's the fool that is dancing in each one of us,
At our lives and our jobs we dare not to trust,
For in time even love can too slip away,
And what we are left with is- a great debt to pay,
But the fool has found out that its fun on the ledge,
He has found the excitement that many leave in dread,

And you're dancing to the music
That no one hears but you,
Glancing through the cages
Of reflections back in view,
Seeing through the pages
Of your life - or so alleged,
As you miss the mark, miss out on love
The fool dancing over the edge --
